BIOGRAPHY

I am multi instrumentalist aspiring to connect, teach and learn through my knowledge and experience of music. Holding experience and finding enjoyment across a vast selection of musical focuses and styles, I often apply myself through means of pedagogy, composition, production, recording, as well as music therapy. I attempt to create a synthesis of these elements, offering a full spectrum musical experience. I aim to facilitate comfort, enjoyment, and growth, with intention to connect to my students and audience.

Matt Pirozek

Matt is a multi instrumentalist aspiring to connect, teach and learn through his knowledge and experience of music. With a love for performance, he has held solo recitals, played and performed with various types of ensembles, performed alongside members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera Ensemble, and performed in the streets of the lower mainland, eager to meet, inspire, and connect with music enthusiasts of all sorts. Holding knowledge and finding enjoyment across a vast selection of musical focuses, he often applies himself through means of pedagogy, composition, production, recording, as well as music therapy. He attempts to create a synthesis of these elements, offering a full spectrum musical experience.

Matt aims to facilitate comfort, enjoyment, and growth in his pupils’ studies, utilizing their strengths in order to improve their weaknesses. He specializes in classical guitar, but plays many styles of music across a variety of stringed instruments, with knowledge of piano, accordion, and a handful of other instruments as well. His studies in guitar under Don Hlus and Stanton Jack at Kwantlen Polytechnic University introduced an intensive approach to the guitar, solidifying many staples in classical guitar repertoire, alongside technique and fretboard knowledge. Music theory, another strength in his pedagogical repertoire, was learned through an array of professors at Kwantlen, concentrating on classical, jazz, and post tonal techniques.

Taking multiple courses in music technology he is also familiar with production and recording techniques in Digital Audio Workstations including Logic and Ableton. He holds a firm understanding on MIDI/Audio recording, editing, and modulation. This allows him to compose and perform making use of these various techniques, as well as teach eager musicians first hand about many technological applications of todays ever changing industry. Using his instrumental talents, combined with his technological understanding, he creates real time live loops and layers, melding many aspects of his training and experience throughout his path as a musician.

Matt’s goal is to help others through the vessel of music, be it teaching numerous musical aspects for a students benefit, or evoking visceral and foreign feelings in order to inspire, heal, and grow through performance and composition. Connection and expression are at the heart of music, and this is what he sees to be most important when building a musical foundation from hobbyists to professionals.
